CAD Designer II – North Chelmsford, MA

GTR, a dynamic and growing Geotechnical Engineering and consulting firm with offices in North Chelmsford, MA, and Armonk, NY, is currently seeking a CAD Designer II with 5+ years of experience to join our Massachusetts office.

At GTR, we offer opportunities to work on the most challenging, high-profile projects in the Heavy Civil, Infrastructure, Transportation, and Marine construction sectors, providing qualified candidates excellent avenues for professional growth and development.  Our primary clients are Contractors, and we serve their geotechnical and structural engineering, pile and shaft testing, and instrumentation and monitoring needs throughout the project.  We perform design and analysis of, and are not limited to, temporary earth-retaining structures, trestles/work platforms, deep and shallow foundation design, marine structures, accelerated bridge construction, shoring, demolition, and erection plans.

We are seeking a motivated CAD Designer with a strong understanding of engineering drafting and AutoCAD to support our engineering team. Working closely with engineers and project managers, you will prepare accurate construction drawings, coordinate revisions, and assist in delivering high-quality engineering projects on schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare complete drawing packages from engineer markups, sketches, and verbal direction.
  • Produce plan, profile, section, detail, and construction drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Assist with drawings for deep foundations, retaining walls, structural systems, instrumentation, and temporary support-of-excavation projects.
  • Revise drawings based on engineering review and client comments.
  • Maintain drawing files and project documentation.
  • Coordinate drawing revisions throughout all phases of a project.
  • Work closely with engineers and project managers to meet project schedules.
  • Ensure drawings comply with company standards and client requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining CAD standards and typical project details.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and quality.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Drafting, CAD, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
  • 5+ years of CAD drafting experience, preferably in a civil, structural, or geotechnical engineering environment.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
  • Strong understanding/proficiency of AutoCAD Civil 3D required. Experience with MicroStation, Revit, and/or other BIM software is a plus.
  • Understanding of construction drawings and structural details, including steel, concrete, and timber. Familiar with state and federal CAD requirements to develop compliant drawings.
  • Understanding of dynamic blocks, scripts, Dynamo, and related tools is a plus.
  • Professional attitude and self-motivation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office suite.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • A valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation to the worksite is required
  • Must be willing to work in the office to engage with co-workers and develop positive relationships. Occasional remote work is acceptable, provided the work is advanced efficiently and the ability to perform work is not hindered.
