Les Chernauskas, President of GTR

Les R. Chernauskas, P.E.

President

Mr. Les R. Chernauskas, P.E. is the Co-Founder and President of the Company and directs the firm’s daily operations. He is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Michigan and holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering. His background includes over 30 years of geotechnical consulting experience including foundation design, earth support, and temporary structures. Les’ area of specialization is with static and dynamic load testing and non-destructive testing (NDT) and evaluation of deep foundations. He has been involved with the design and construction of various infrastructure and public works projects such as the Central Artery project in Massachusetts, I95/I195 improvements in Rhode Island, I287/I87 interchange in New York, Goethals Bridge in New Jersey, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge in Maryland/Virginia, Sarah Mildred Long Bridge in Portsmouth, NH, Q-bridge in Connecticut, and the Providence River Bridge in Rhode Island. He is actively involved in various DFI, ADSC, PDCA, and ASTM committees and also is a member of ASCE, BSCE, and The Moles.

Leo J. Hart

Chief Engineer and Managing Partner

Mr. Leo J. Hart is a Principal engineer and Managing Partner of the Company and oversees the technical and project delivery operations. Mr. Hart holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering, with a focus in geotechnical engineering. His background includes over 24 years of geotechnical consulting and research experience in the Boston area. Mr. Hart’s specialization is related to design of pile foundations and temporary structures.  Mr. Hart also performs instrumentation monitoring and design, including field and full-scale instrumentation of deep foundations. Mr. Hart has specific experience using several major data acquisition systems, strain gages, displacement transducers, load cells, inclinometers, piezometers, and pressure cells of both vibrating wire and electrical resistance based technologies. He also performs instrumentation and testing services. He has been involved with the design and construction of various infrastructure and public works projects such as the Central Artery project in Massachusetts, Sakonnet River Bridge in Rhode Island, I95/I195 improvements in Rhode Island, RIDOT Pile Load Test Program, Goethals Bridge in New Jersey, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge in Maryland/Virginia, Q-bridge in Connecticut, MNRR Jump Span over Atlantic Street in Stamford CT, and the Providence River Bridge in Rhode Island and the Walk Bridge in Connecticut.

John E. Regan, P.E.

Principal and Managing Partner

Mr. John E. Regan, P.E. serves as a Principal and Managing Partner of the Company responsible for Project Delivery and Business Development.  Mr. Regan holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Massachusetts – Lowell in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering and he is a registered Professional Engineer in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and South Carolina.  He has over 30 years of experience in Heavy Civil / Heavy Highway and Foundation Marine construction and geotechnical consulting experience including foundation design, earth support, and temporary structures.  His role includes technical review and project management on numerous heavy civil, heavy highway and foundation and marine projects requiring geotechnical engineering and instrumentation, deep foundation design and construction and temporary excavation support.  Mr. Regan’s experience includes development and execution of various geotechnical instrumentation and investigation projects, specialty foundation drilling projects, foundation engineering, static and dynamic pile analyses and ground modification grouting projects.  He has extensive experience designing and performing soil and bedrock grouting, designing, installing and testing deep foundation systems including driven piles, micro piles, soil nailing, soil and rock anchors. Mr. Regan’s notable projects include ConnDOT Walk Bridge Pre-construction Engineering, RIDOT 6/10 Interchange Design-Build foundation re-design and Full-Scale Load Test Program, MassDOT I-495 / I-90 Interchange, Washington D.C. Metro (WMATA) E3B Park Road Stacked Tunnels, MetroNorth RR Jump Span over Atlantic Street in Stamford CT, NY/NJ Port Authority Goethals Bridge Bulkhead, Boston’s Central Artery Tunnel Contracts C15A1, C15A2, C11A1, C09A4 and C12, Fields Point LNG in Rhode Island, Cove Point LNG and Gaylord National Harbor in Maryland, design, development and execution of Automated Geotechnical Instrumentation systems at General Dynamics Electric Boat, MBTA Greenline Extension and ConnDOT Walk Bridge project.  Mr. Regan is also a licensed Construction Supervisor (MA).

Curtis A. George, P.E.

Geotechnical Engineering and Deep Foundation Testing and Analyses

Mr. Curtis A. George, P.E.  is a Principal of the Company responsible for Geotechnical Engineering Services. Mr. George holds a B.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.  He is a licensed engineer in the State of New Jersey. He has over 18 years of experience in the geotechnical engineering field working on in the geotechnical engineering field working on Heavy Civil/Heavy Highway public works projects and private developments for general contractors, deep foundation specialty contractors, structural engineers, architects and developers. His responsibilities include managing geotechnical engineering studies and construction monitoring projects, deep foundation design/testing, value engineering of alternate deep foundation or ground improvements systems, managing/reviewing construction phase engineering services (SOE, water control systems, demolition plans, picking plans, temporary utility supports, etc.) managing construction phase instrumentation projects (vibration and settlement monitoring) and managing proposal preparation efforts within the company.  Mr. George is also certified in dynamic pile testing.

Seth H. Hamblin, P.E.

Geotechnical Instrumentation and Contractor Services

Mr. Seth H. Hamblin, P.E. is a Principal of the Company responsible for our Geotechnical Instrumentation Services.  Mr. Hamblin earned a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Tufts University and has over 18 years of experience in Heavy Civil / Heavy Highway and Foundation Marine construction.  His background includes design, construction, and testing of shallow and deep foundation; design and installation of geotechnical instrumentation monitoring systems, earth support systems; design of concrete, steel and timber structures; soil dynamics; and surveying.  Mr. Hamblin is a licensed Professional Engineer in five New England state and New York.  He is an active member of the PDCA, Deep Foundation Institute (DFI) Foundation Testing & Evaluation Committee and Driven Pile Committee, the Boston Society of Civil Engineers (BSCE) Construction Institute Committee and he is the Treasurer of the Rhode Island Chapter of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Ryan P. Murphy, P.E.

Mr. Ryan Murphy, P.E. is Project Manager of GTR’s New York Design and Consulting Group with experience in analyzing and designing temporary earth support structures, deep foundation testing, design and monitoring.  He holds a B.S. degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of New Hampshire and an M.C.E. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from North Carolina State University. Mr. Murphy is a geotechnical engineer with a wide-range of field and design experience including non-destructive testing, static and dynamic pile testing, automated total station deformation monitoring, and geotechnical instrumentation. He also performs deep foundation, construction, and lateral earth support system design. He is responsible for field testing, design, and geotechnical engineering analysis and reporting.

Christopher Jones, P.E.

Mr. Chris Jones, P.E. is a Project Manager with over 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, deep foundation testing and geo-structural design. Mr. Jones holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.  He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of New York. He has over 20 years of experience in the geotechnical engineering field working on public works projects and private developments for general contractors, deep foundation specialty contractors, structural engineers, architects and developers. His responsibilities include designing support of excavation (SOE) systems, soil nails, drilled and driven pile design, temporary trestles and conducting other geotechnical/structural engineering analyses. 

Daniel Cheney

Mr. Daniel Cheney is an Assistant Project Manager with a wide-range of field and design experience including non-destructive testing, static and dynamic pile testing, cross-hole sonic logging, automated total station deformation monitoring, geotechnical instrumentation, and vibration monitoring systems. Mr. Cheney holds a B.S. degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Dominic Valeri, EIT

Mr. Domenic Valeri, EIT is a geotechnical engineer with experience in a variety of deep foundation testing and monitoring projects as well as geotechnical investigation. Mr. Valeri holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering as well as a M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering from University of Massachusetts Lowell. His responsibilities include performing field tests such as static load testing, dynamic testing, geotechnical instrumentation, vibration monitoring, cross-hole sonic logging, and construction materials testing. Other tasks include geotechnical/foundation design for shallow and deep foundations, soil analysis, construction monitoring, vibration monitoring and preconstruction surveys.

Jonathan L. Ernst, P.E.

Mr. Jonathan L. Ernst, P.E. has over 8 years of service to GTR and has risen to the ranks of Project Manager of GTR’s Massachusetts Design Group, with experience in deep foundation testing, design and monitoring.  Mr. Ernst has completed a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and an M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and has his Professional Engineering Licensure in the state of Rhode Island.  His responsibilities include designing support of excavation (SOE) systems, soil nails, drilled and driven pile design, shallow foundation design, underpinning design, and conducting other geotechnical/structural engineering analyses.  In addition to design responsibilities, Mr. Ernst is certified in Dynamic Testing and is well versed in Cross-hole sonic logging, vibration monitoring, static load testing and construction monitoring activities.

Shaun R. Hevey, P.E.

Mr. Shaun R. Hevey, P.E. is an Assistant Project Manager with experience in analyzing and design critical temporary earth support structures, deep foundation testing and monitoring.  Mr. Hevey has completed a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and his M.S. in geotechnical engineering. Mr. Shaun Hevey also has obtained his Rhode Island and New Hampshire Professional Engineering Licensure. His responsibilities include performing cross-hole sonic logging, vibration monitoring, pre-construction surveys, static load testing, geotechnical explorations, and general construction monitoring services as well as compiling reports for respective monitoring/testing projects.  In addition to construction and field services Mr. Hevey has experience with design of support of excavation (SOE) systems, soil nails, slope stability, and static load frames.  Mr. Hevey also holds a law degree from Massachusetts Law School.

William D. Oder

Mr. William D. Oder has over 9 years of experience with GTR and is an Assistant Project Manager with experience in a variety of deep foundation testing, analysis and monitoring projects as well as geotechnical investigation.  Mr. Oder completed his B.S. degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.  His responsibilities include managing projects mostly focused on NDT, Training personnel on the field tasks and office tasks GTR performs and performing field tests such as static load tests, PDA testing, Vibration Monitoring, Cross-hole sonic logging, Thermal integrity profiling, Sonic Echo testing and many other non-destructive tests.  Other tasks include soil analysis, construction monitoring, vibration monitoring, pre-con surveys and geotechnical/foundation design for shallow/deep foundations. Office tasks include a variety of analyses and reports such as, SLT CSL, PDA, SEM, TIP, other non-destructive testing reports, Concrete strength estimation evaluations for drilled shafts and many others.
