New Bedford Foss Marine Terminal

When the former Eversource Energy / Sprague Oil property in New Bedford, Massachusetts was selected as another base of operations and terminal logistics facility to support offshore wind projects off the New England seaboard, Collins Engineers, Inc. of East Greenwich, Rhode Island retained GTR as Geotechnical Engineer.

The 29-acre parcel will be re-purposed to serve the offshore wind industry off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, MA.  GTR’s services included execution of a comprehensive subsurface exploration program which included both landside and marine borings marine based subsurface exploration program in the Acushnet River consisting of numerous borings along the perimeter of the existing bulkhead to develop design parameters for the permanent sheetpile bulkhead.  GTR prepare a Geotechnical Engineering Report complete with foundation recommendations and ground improvement options for increasing the landside bearing capacity to 5,000 PSF to support offshore wind equipment and materials.
