The new $4 Billion Delta Air Lines Terminal C project is a critical part of the dramatic redevelopment effort at LaGuardia Airport (LGA). This massive endeavor consolidates Delta Airlines operations into a new, 1.3M square-foot state-of-the-art facility. The project entails the demolition of 600,000-square-feet of existing facilities. The new Terminal C will include 37 aircraft gates distributed across 4 Concourses connected by a centralized security checkpoint, and baggage claim. The foundation system supporting the various structures as part of the Terminal C Development consists of over 10,000 steel pipe piles varying in diameter from 14-inch to 20-inch.
Delta Airlines selected GTR to perform project-wide dynamic pile testing and to assist the design team. GTR performed dynamic pile testing during end of initial driving and/or restrike on over six-hundred (600) drive pipe piles. In addition, as part of the comprehensive static load test program, GTR provided 3rd party quality control inspection on over one hundred (100) static pile load tests including compression, tension, and lateral load testing in accordance with ASTM standards. GTR also provided construction engineering services for the various foundation subcontractors including Wave Equation Analyses (WEAP), telltale and inclinometer load test instrumentation services.
