To help alleviate reliance on imported LNG from oversees and provide reliable on-site storage of domestic natural gas using their existing on-site infrastructure, National Grid selected Kiewit Power Construction of Lenexa, Kansas to engineer, procure, construct (EPC) and construct this natural gas treatment and liquefaction facility to supercool natural gas diverted from existing nearby pipelines.
Under their EPC Contract, Kiewit Power Construction Co. selected GTR to design, instrument and execute a full-scale pile load test program to evaluate the performance of 14-inch pre-cast, pre-stressed concrete driven pile foundations. GTR worked alongside Kiewit Foundation Group to conduct on-site field testing including static compression, static tension load testing and dynamic pile testing (PDA / CAPWAP). As part of the Static Load Test Program, GTR collaborated with Old Castle Precast and Kiewit to install embedded vibrating wire strain gages in the test piles ta the casting yard. GTR conducted a total of 4 static compression and 4 static tension load tests on the 14-pre-stressed concrete piles. To evaluate pile capacity, hammer performance and pile integrity, GTR conducted dynamic pile testing on over 50 concrete piles.
GTR performed additional on-site services including full-time Quality Control for driven pile and drilled micropile installation, Grout Testing QC, vibration and noise monitoring. In addition, GTR performed pre-cast, presressed concrete pile design services for Old Castle Precast of Avon, CT.
