GTR proposed and executed an Alternative Pile Load Test Program to evaluate and verify in-situ pile capacity of existing steel pipe piles supporting a concrete pier deck at East Pier in Boston Harbor. The objective of the specified load test program, which included static compression and dynamic pile testing, was to evaluate the re-use potential of the existing steel pipe piles for future development. In lieu of performing costly and time consuming static compression load tests, GTR proposed and successfully executed an Alternate Multi-Phase Pile Load Test program which included Statnamic (Rapid Load) Testing in combination with dynamic pile testing of the existing piles. Results of the load test program verified that the generated capacity of the exiting piles exceeded the design teams’ required capacity. GTR also provided low strain integrity testing to supplement the test program and aid in developing the appropriate pile models for the testing.
